Summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - Includes Lee Child's short story "Not a Drill" and an excerpt from Make Me

"The indomitable Reacher burns up the pages。"--USA Today

Four people in a car, hoping to make Chicago by morning。 One man driving, another telling stories that don't add up。 A woman in the back, silent and worried。 And a hitchhiker with a broken nose。 An hour behind them, the FBI descends on an old pumping station where a man was stabbed to death--the knife work professional, the killers nowhere to be seen。

All Jack Reacher wanted was a ride to Virginia。 All he did was stick out his thumb。 But he soon discovers he has hitched more than a ride。 He has tied himself to a massive conspiracy, in which nothing is what it seems, and nobody is telling the truth。

"Furious action 。 。 。 [Lee] Child keeps the pacing swift and the surprises rolling。 。 。 。 [A] feverishly thrilling series。"--The Miami Herald

"Smart, breathless 。 。 。 [with] one of the best female characters in the whole Reacher series。"--The New York Times

"Subtle and nuanced [with] seductive writing and irresistible plot twists。"--Newsweek

Margo - Putting the Mmmmmm back in Menage

OMG! Can he just get to Virginia already? I found the POV scenes with the other detectives annoying。 This felt like an artificial delay in Reacher's trip。 OMG! Can he just get to Virginia already? Book Review - I debated whether to write this book review, "A Wanted Man" by Lee Child, so I went and grabbed a quick breakfast, reviewed my ‘dated’ notes from reading the book, then decided to go ahead and write the review。 If you’re a diehard Jack Reacher fan as I once ‘was’, you may not like this particular review。 I literally moaned and groaned nearly all the way through this book。 It just didn’t work for me。 It felt poorly-cobbled-together, highly contrived and very lackluster in the typica Book Review - I debated whether to write this book review, "A Wanted Man" by Lee Child, so I went and grabbed a quick breakfast, reviewed my ‘dated’ notes from reading the book, then decided to go ahead and write the review。 If you’re a diehard Jack Reacher fan as I once ‘was’, you may not like this particular review。 I literally moaned and groaned nearly all the way through this book。 It just didn’t work for me。 It felt poorly-cobbled-together, highly contrived and very lackluster in the typical Reacher fashion and here are my reasons why it didn’t work for me。。。1st - there were no "Colossal Left Hooks" - or really any fighting/action at all。 Just ‘one’ small scene。2nd - the little gun action present in the book is filled with grievous errors。。。gun enthusiasts will pick up quickly on the mistakes, I did!3rd - Reacher spends the first third of the book in a car on the highway doing。。。’nada’, nothing, ‘zilch。’4th - there was no "Reacher said nothing。"5th - this plot seemed like copied story lines from several previous books (Nothing to Lose in particular and maybe a few others。)6th - Lee Child (a Brit) puts in more anti-American slights。 They’re subtle but they are there。。。7th - the "Reacher loves numbers" is way overplayed and overdone。 Maybe that’s why there was no “Reacher said nothing。”8th - no "major love interest", no action with the ladies - what, did Reacher get neutered or something?9th - no clever Lee Child plot, no Jack Reacher hero resolve, no mystery, no suspense。 Nothing ‘thrilling’ about this story。10 - no "I messed up/I had it all wrong" Reacher moment - when he figures it all out and takes action。At best, “A Wanted Man” was just a placeholder in a use to be engaging action-packed thriller series。 At worst, it leaves us feeling like Child had run out of ideas and was trying desperately to pull the wool over our eyes since his fame almost guarantees that we will buy the books sight-unseen。 It seems like he was trying his hand at a psychological thriller, but if that was the case, it came across very ‘amateurish。’ It makes one wonder if Child had resorted to using a ghost writer。 Poorly written which makes this unfortunately a “Must-Skip” read in my opinion。 Sorry, but I try to be honest in all my reviews and this one was shamefully one of the low-spots in the Jack Reacher series。 。。。more

One of the more boring book of Reacher。 It’s draggy and uninteresting。

This book is 75% Reacher in a car, 20% deducing terrorists’ whereabouts through McDonald’s consumption and 5% action。 At least the 20% is some of the most amusing stuff I’ve ever read in one of these, intentionally or otherwise。

4 StarsA Wanted Man (Jack Reacher Book #17) by Lee Child。2021 reading challenge- review to come。

To me, the magic of this book was the snappy and often sarcastic dialogue, led by the main character! Enjoyed his verbal interactions so much。 I plan to read another Reacher book just to hear more! This was the strongest part of the story for me…even more than the plot or other characters!

Victor

Absolutely love it

A page turner!

Jack finds more trouble but resolves it quickly, on his way to Virginia。

I have to choose the right time to read a Jack Reacher novel, because when I start one everything else gets put on hold--dishes, cooking, washing, etc。 This one was so puzzling up until the last part of the book。 Jack is mixed up with an FBI, CIA, state department hunt for the big cheese in a terrorist plot。 He is locked up in a safe house, and then he and two female agents get out to try to find a FBI mole has gone off the grid。 They end up at a 1950s cold war bunker。 One of the women gets shot I have to choose the right time to read a Jack Reacher novel, because when I start one everything else gets put on hold--dishes, cooking, washing, etc。 This one was so puzzling up until the last part of the book。 Jack is mixed up with an FBI, CIA, state department hunt for the big cheese in a terrorist plot。 He is locked up in a safe house, and then he and two female agents get out to try to find a FBI mole has gone off the grid。 They end up at a 1950s cold war bunker。 One of the women gets shot, and the other one saves Reacher's life just as he is about to be sacrificed。 The bunker is an underground banking system for the terrorists, who do all their banking offline the old fashioned way--paper and pencil。 There wasn't as much shooting, smashing skulls, breaking knee caps in this story as there usually is, but it held my attention and it makes me wonder just how far the FBI goes now that the Patriot Act is for real。 。。。more

You know what to expect with these! Not one of the best but a very passable page turner

Great read。 One Lee’s better books。 Kept me interested and I had a hard time putting it down。 Thanks Lee!

Daniel Johnson Jr

Could not sleep。 Had to stay up to finish it。 Interesting that the book starts with Reacher still wearing clothes he got in Bolton, South Dakota (see 61 Hours)。 I would like to read the book(s) in between these two to know more。

Simon Cox

More of the same thats good enough for me!

Rosie

This book is about Jack Reacher。 It started off interesting then moved into incomprehensible quite quickly

D。 Norman

I have just one question。 How did all of that take place in just one day?

Sean

Listened to the audiobook version of this on a roadtrip; I am not a particle fan of the genre and have never read the other books nor seen the movies。 I have to say that I enjoyed the last couple of chapters; the author does very well with action sequences。 The rest of the book, though, suffered from terrible dialogue and uneven pacing。

Nancy

Good enough。 There’s probably 100 pages too much of “left turn, right turn, north/south, east/west and number stuff。 The story itself kept me interested。

Another superb Jack Reacher story just couldn’t put it down。

Confusing So many different government agencies involved, certainly this means confusion。 Reacher takes it head on。 He gets a ride with a group of 3 people。 Figures out that something's wrong, gets shot at and left behind, but now he's in the middle and of course, he steps up to " handle " the problem。 These books are smart and fast。 Reacher is the bullet。 Confusing So many different government agencies involved, certainly this means confusion。 Reacher takes it head on。 He gets a ride with a group of 3 people。 Figures out that something's wrong, gets shot at and left behind, but now he's in the middle and of course, he steps up to " handle " the problem。 These books are smart and fast。 Reacher is the bullet。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 same old Jack Reacher but Lee felt out of touch like when mcqueen shot reacher above his head deliberately and reacher couldn't figure it out, i mean not necessarily all the way to conclusion but atleast some thoughts on matter why a man, bad guy would miss from 8 feet by 4 5 feet above reacher's head。 i had read 3 times for getting to next line。 what just happened there, i dont know, small but some what long, not usual long, berral of a 。022 with 9mm parrabellum missed。 no way reacher wouldn't same old Jack Reacher but Lee felt out of touch like when mcqueen shot reacher above his head deliberately and reacher couldn't figure it out, i mean not necessarily all the way to conclusion but atleast some thoughts on matter why a man, bad guy would miss from 8 feet by 4 5 feet above reacher's head。 i had read 3 times for getting to next line。 what just happened there, i dont know, small but some what long, not usual long, berral of a 。022 with 9mm parrabellum missed。 no way reacher wouldn't thought on this and that's what i missed in this。nonetheless a thriller。 Sorenson got Head ahot was just like in "without Fail" whete secret service lady got killed but here, Sorenson was gone long before we could comprehend or even imagine to happen that。oh man。 so long。 。。。more

Good and exciting chase for much of the story。 However the 'reveal' is a bit of a disappointment as it does not mesh well with the action of all the previous pages。 Too much of a let down for me。 Good and exciting chase for much of the story。 However the 'reveal' is a bit of a disappointment as it does not mesh well with the action of all the previous pages。 Too much of a let down for me。 。。。more
